Why did I run for Alderman?
The city of Newton is at a critical crossroads and an open minded, well communicated, new, and more effective approach to the way it serves its residents is needed — Now.
As a 3rd generation Newton resident, husband, father of two teenagers, local business owner, community volunteer and activist, and former co-anchor of NewTV’s Newton News, I bring a sensible and fresh perspective to the Board of Aldermen and make things better for those of us who live, work, or spend time in Newton.
I believe Newton is still one of the best cities in America. However, I also believe we’ve been on a slow downslide over the past several years. In some ways, we’ve been resting on our excellent reputation.
We can not afford to rest on our reputation. And we certainly can not afford to continue doing business the way it’s been done over the past several years.
Now is the time for change. Real change. I hear your concerns. A high school project with record-breaking costs. Elementary schools falling apart. Roads in bad shape. Teachers, Police and Firefighter positions cut. Threats to the residential character of our neighborhoods. And a local government that’s stuck in old-style ways. I continue to hear from folks that we need new faces on the Board who are willing to really listen…and act. I agree. And I am offering my time and passion to make our city the best it can be.
I look forward to meeting you and to listening and discussing the issues that are most important to you. I also welcome the opportunity to attend coffees, community and village meetings, and neighborhood gatherings.
I invite you to email me directly at charlie@voteshapiro.org anytime and let me know what you feel are the most important issues to you.
Thanks for taking the time to visit VoteShapiro.org, and I look forward to seeing you at city hall, in your neighborhood, and around town!
